A tragic incident occurred over the weekend in Oakwood Hills, IL, where a 19-year-old man lost his life in a drowning incident at Silver Lake. The victim, identified as Thane Kilbourn from Glendale, Wisconsin, was kayaking on the lake when the unfortunate incident took place.
Details of the Incident
According to authorities, Kilbourn was in a boat with a 20-year-old man from Schaumburg when he fell out of his kayak. The boat was halfway across Silver Lake when it tipped over, causing Kilbourn to go under the water. The 20-year-old man was able to swim to shore, but Kilbourn was found 60 feet from shore in about 12 feet of water.
Recovery Efforts and Investigation
Rescue crews responded to the scene and recovered Kilbourn’s body. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old man was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The Oakwood Hills Police Department is currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the drowning.
