Food safety and dietary quality intersect as well. Healthy diets should be prepared hygienically and stored properly to reduce foodborne illness risk, which can otherwise undermine overall nutritional status.
In clinical and public health contexts, these dietary principles align with global strategies to reduce noncommunicable diseases. Population-level interventions—such as reformulation of foods to lower sodium and trans fats, clear labeling, and marketing restrictions for sugar-sweetened beverages—complement individual choices by shifting default options toward healthier selections.
