Importantly, recovery from sleep deprivation is dose-dependent and may require multiple nights of extended sleep. However, if sleep deprivation is chronic or driven by an untreated sleep disorder, symptomatic improvements may be incomplete without addressing the root cause. When sleep loss is accompanied by profound daytime sleepiness, snoring with witnessed apneas, severe mood changes, or suicidal thoughts, urgent medical evaluation is warranted.
