Rehabilitation focuses on maintaining range of motion, strengthening within limits, improving gait or transfers, and training safe movement strategies to reduce painful episodes during the day and indirectly at night.

Because spinal injury can evolve over time, ongoing reassessment is essential. Growth-related changes can alter alignment and exacerbate pain; scoliosis or kyphosis may develop or worsen, especially in chronic neurologic injury.
