Management is multimodal. Fourth, consider occupational therapy or sensory-based interventions if oral sensory sensitivity or texture intolerance is prominent.
Pharmacotherapy is not a direct “cure” for vegetable avoidance, but it may be considered when comorbid conditions are present. For example, if restrictive eating is tied to significant anxiety, depression, or obsessive-compulsive features, clinicians may treat the underlying disorder using evidence-based medication pathways alongside psychotherapy. However, the cornerstone remains dietary re-expansion and behavioral change.
A practical safety guideline is to avoid abruptly eliminating broad food groups without substitution, and to seek professional care if there is weight loss, marked fatigue, persistent gastrointestinal complaints, or significant restriction beyond preference. Early intervention is beneficial because restrictive patterns become harder to reverse as they become habitual and socially reinforced.
