
The Assyrian Church of the East is mourning the loss of Rev. Fr. Yousif Shamasha Gorgees, who passed away in Toronto at the age of 83. A deeply devoted priest, Fr. Gorgees dedicated over three decades of his life to serving the Virgin Mary parish located in the Nairiya district of Baghdad. His long and impactful ministry touched the lives of countless parishioners, and his passing is being widely felt within the Assyrian community. The ADM (Assyrian Democratic Movement) has extended its sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the wider church community during this time of grief. Fr. Gorgees’ commitment to his faith and his pastoral care were hallmarks of his service. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire those who knew him and were ministered to by him. The church community remembers him with “Eternal memory,” a traditional Assyrian phrase signifying remembrance and honor for the departed.
