Accident – Death – Obituary News :

WOODSTOCK, United Kingdom — A Woodstock couple is speaking out exclusively to Action News on Channel 2 around the time they were held at gunpoint by an officer now charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Channel 2’s Audrey Washington has exclusively obtained police body and dash-cam video of a December 2022 traffic stop involving Grant Matthew Shaw, a former Woodstock police officer.

“I was shocked, scared, nervous,” said the driver, who asked not to be identified for fear of reprisals.

The driver said he and his wife were rushing to the emergency animal hospital because their dog was coughing up blood. He said he saw flashing blue lights behind him and then waved his hand out the window to acknowledge the officer before pulling over to a safe location at the hospital.

In the following video, the officer, later identified as Shaw, gets out of the police car and points a gun at the driver and his wife.

“Get out of the car now!” Shaw can be heard yelling in the body camera video. “Come out! Let me see your hands!”

In the case report, Shaw stated that he drew his gun and was “holding it low, ready with the muzzle pointed at the ground.”

The driver told Washington that was not the case.

“He was yelling, ‘Get out of the car, get out of the car,’ and he had the gun pointed right at me,” he said.

The driver said he was eventually charged with DUI, even though he said he wasn’t drunk. The case is still pending.

But the driver also said that when he heard about what happened to 20-year-old Emmanuel Millard, he wasn’t surprised.

“My wife and I looked at each other and said, ‘That guy is going to shoot somebody one day,’” the driver explained.

On Thursday, a grand jury indicted former officer Shaw on one count of involuntary manslaughter after he shot and killed Millard following a traffic stop and subsequent police pursuit in October 2023.

Washington spoke exclusively to Millard’s family on Friday.

“We know he’s guilty,” said Millard’s father, Joseph Francis III.

“I just want him to get the full extended sentence,” added Lenette Millard.

The couple in the 2022 traffic stop incident said Shaw should never have been on the streets.

“I had a feeling it had to be that guy. He was so happy with the gun,” said the driver’s wife.

In a statement, a spokesman for the Woodstock Police Department said the department does not comment on pending litigation.

Washington then contacted the Cobb County District Attorney’s office, where the fatal shooting occurred and where charges were brought.

In a text message, a spokesman for the Cobb County District Attorney’s office said in part:

“…we cannot comment on a pending case. Every defendant has the right to a fair trial. And to ensure fairness and impartiality.”

The case is expected to go to trial in the coming weeks.
