The Tragic Accident in Robbinsville Township

This morning, a heartbreaking series of collisions on the New Jersey Turnpike resulted in the loss of a Pennsylvania man’s life. The incident took place at approximately 2:17 a.m. at milepost 64.1 in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike’s inner roadway in Robbinsville Township.

Sequence of Collisions

Reports indicate that the collisions began when two BMWs, a 428i and an X3, collided with each other, leading to both vehicles becoming disabled. The situation took a turn for the worse when a third BMW, a 328i, traveling southbound, collided with the already disabled 428i.

Tragic Turn of Events

After the collision, the driver of the 328i parked the vehicle on the right shoulder and exited the car, standing near the roadway. Tragedy struck when a Hyundai passenger vehicle, also heading southbound, hit the disabled 428i and then struck the pedestrian, identified as 30-year-old Alton Smith of Levittown, PA, who had exited the 328i.

Fatal Consequences

Alton Smith sustained fatal injuries in the accident, while the driver of the Hyundai suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported in the incident, but the impact of this tragedy is deeply felt.
