PHOENIX – Over the weekend, a tragic incident unfolded in Gilbert, leaving one man dead in a canal.
Authorities were alerted to the scene early on Saturday morning, where they discovered the lifeless body of a man face down in the water near the intersection of Baseline Road and Lindsay Road in Mesa.
The grim discovery was made around 6:30 a.m., prompting a swift response from the local fire department. The man was pronounced dead at the scene after being retrieved from the canal.
Further investigation revealed items, including a bike and clothes, located north of Baseline Road that are believed to have belonged to the deceased individual.
At this stage, the man has not been formally identified as authorities are working to notify his next of kin.
Both the Mesa and Gilbert Police Departments are actively involved in the ongoing investigation to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident.
