Police Monitoring Spanish Town After Fatal Shootings

Authorities in Spanish Town and surrounding areas are on high alert after two men believed to be gangsters were fatally shot during reported confrontations with law enforcement officers. The incidents have sparked protests and heightened tensions in the community.

First Incident in Top Banks District

The first incident occurred on Friday in the Top Banks district. Reports indicate that a 44-year-old man identified as Sheldon Walters, also known as Termite, from the Dover area of Kitson Town, was killed during an alleged confrontation. Police recovered a firearm at the scene.

Second Fatality in Central Village

The following day, a second man, identified as Joseph Campbell, 37, of Browns Lane in Central Village, was also fatally shot. The news of the shootings prompted residents to take to the streets in protest, leading to road blockades and fires in the area.

Increased Police Presence

In response to the unrest, both police and military personnel have increased their presence in and around Spanish Town to maintain order. Authorities are also on high alert in the St. Catherine North and South divisions due to threats against law enforcement officers following the incidents.

Assurance from Police

Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit, has acknowledged the tension in Spanish Town but assured residents that the situation is under control. The police and military are working to ensure the safety of all residents in the area.
