Man Arrested for Molesting and Attempting to Kill Woman Lawyer in Mumbai
A man has been arrested for allegedly molesting and attempting to kill a 35-year-old woman lawyer inside a washroom at a shopping centre in south Mumbai. The incident took place at 8am on Thursday at the Ashoka Shopping Centre on Lokmantya Tilak Marg, where the victim has her office.
Details of the Incident
According to a police official, the victim went to the common toilet at the shopping centre around 7:30am. Upon finding a 21-year-old man inside, she asked him to leave. The accused pretended to leave, allowing her to enter the washroom. However, when she came out, she discovered the man standing at the door, having locked the main door of the toilet from inside.
The man proceeded to molest the woman and then attempted to kill her, despite her cries for help. The victim managed to escape by kicking him in the stomach. The accused, identified as Ramashankar Gautam alias Sandeep Pandey, works as a security guard in a nearby office.
Arrest and Charges
Upon being alerted, the Azad Maidan police station apprehended the accused. He has been charged with attempt to murder, wrongful restraint, assault, and other offences. Ramashankar Gautam has been remanded in police custody until April 23.
