A man was rushed to the hospital and two individuals were taken into custody following a shooting in Bloomington on Friday night. The incident occurred in the 100 block of South Curry Pike, where Bloomington Police Department officers responded to reports of a person shot at 10:55 p.m.

Victim Hospitalized with Multiple Gunshot Wounds

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a 56-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery. Fortunately, medical staff expect the man to survive his injuries.

Suspects Seen Fleeing the Scene

After learning about the shooting, witnesses reported seeing multiple suspects fleeing from the apartment where the incident occurred. At around 11 p.m., officers spotted two suspects walking along a tree line between Highland Village Church and a nearby parking lot.

Arrests Made

Police identified the male suspect as 35-year-old Devance Anthony Gayles from Michigan City. Gayles attempted to hide in the woods but was eventually apprehended by law enforcement. The female suspect, 19-year-old Annabella Winter Jackson from Bloomington, was also arrested in connection with the incident.

Charges Filed

Gayles faces charges of attempted murder, burglary, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, criminal recklessness, and pointing a firearm. Jackson, who had an outstanding warrant for a probation violation, also faces charges of resisting law enforcement.

Weapon Recovered

During the investigation, a handgun was found wrapped in a sweatshirt near the scene of the crime. The Bloomington Police Department continues to gather evidence and interview witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
