Tragic Discovery in Joliet, Illinois

JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) – A somber atmosphere enveloped the city of Joliet, Illinois, as the lifeless body of 37-year-old Robert Long was discovered in the Des Plaines River on Friday morning. The news of his tragic fate left the community in mourning and disbelief.

A Mysterious Disappearance

Long had been missing for nearly a week before his body was found. His family had reported him missing to the authorities on April 13, sparking a frantic search effort. The last sighting of Long was on April 11 in the 300 block of North Bluff Street, where he resides near the Riverwalk Homes, a housing development nestled by the Des Plaines River.

Intensive Search Efforts

The Joliet Police Department launched an investigation into Long’s disappearance, conducting thorough searches of the housing complex and its surroundings. Despite their best efforts, the search yielded minimal new information. The Joliet Fire Department also deployed sonar equipment to scour the river but to no avail.

Heartbreak and Closure

Emotions ran high as Long’s family, together with police investigators and fire personnel, combed the area near North Bluff Street and the Des Plaines River. It was a painstaking search that finally came to a devastating end when Long’s body was discovered on the south side of the McDonough Street bridge.
