Tragic Incident in Memphis
In a tragic incident in Memphis, Tennessee, the Memphis Police Association has revealed that nine officers have been relieved of duty in connection with the ongoing investigation into the death of Officer Joseph McKinney. McKinney tragically lost his life after a shootout with two suspects on Friday morning, one of whom, 18-year-old Jaylen Lobley, also lost his life.
Officers from Raines Station
All nine officers who have been relieved of duty worked on the same shift at Raines Station and were present at the scene on that fateful Friday morning. It is standard procedure to relieve officers of duty during an active investigation to ensure transparency and integrity in the process.
Charges Against the 17-Year-Old Suspect
The District Attorney’s office is seeking to move the case of the 17-year-old suspect to adult court. The suspect faces multiple charges, including 13 counts each of criminal attempt first degree murder and assault against a first responder. The Union has stated that the 13 counts correspond to the number of officers present at the scene of the shooting.

Sgt. Matt Cunningham, president of the MPA, expressed the Union’s commitment to supporting the officers involved in the incident. He emphasized the importance of ensuring their well-being and providing them with the necessary resources to cope with the trauma they have experienced.
“The impact of such a tragic event on our officers is unimaginable. We are focused on ensuring that they receive the support they need to process their emotions and prevent any negative repercussions on their mental health,” Cunningham stated in a recent interview with FOX13.
