The Tragic Death of a Suspect in Karachi

The suspect, identified as Junaid, was apprehended by the police for reportedly demanding protection money from a resident named Abdul Basit in the Seaview area of Karachi. After his arrest, Junaid was taken to the Darakhshan police station and placed in the lock-up. However, the next day, he was tragically found dead.

Initially, the police claimed that Junaid had died of a heart attack. To determine the exact cause of death, his body was transferred to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination. In response to the incident, DIG-South Syed Asad Raza ordered an inquiry into the matter. The Saddar SP was appointed as the inquiry officer and given 24 hours to submit the findings. Additionally, the Darakhshan SHO, Ali Raza Leghari, was suspended.

The complainant, Abdul Basit, reported that a man named Moiz Naseem had contacted him demanding protection money. Junaid, acting on behalf of Naseem, collected a total of Rs1.6 million from Basit on various occasions. When Basit refused to pay more, Junaid allegedly threatened him with dire consequences, leading to his arrest on April 14.
