Accident – Death – Obituary News :

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Court documents obtained by FOX 17 have shed light on the tragic events that led to a deadly shooting in Grand Rapids over the weekend. The victim, 39-year-old Brandon Clark, was found dead with a gunshot wound on Saturday morning near Highland Street and Lafayette Avenue.

Suspect Identified and Charged

The suspect in the case, 24-year-old Dayshaun Catledge, was taken into custody hours after the shooting. Grand Rapids Police have charged him with open murder and felony firearm. Catledge’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 23.

Details from Court Documents

According to the court documents obtained by FOX 17, as officers were investigating the shooting scene, they learned that the suspect had called 911 and admitted to the shooting. The caller claimed self-defense, stating that he had been attacked and his father struck with a brick.

Surveillance footage from a nearby liquor store showed an initial confrontation between Catledge and Clark. The video captured Clark approaching Catledge’s vehicle and questioning him about a previous incident involving a gun. A physical altercation ensued, with Clark reportedly punching and pepper spraying Catledge before throwing an object at his father.

After the altercation, both men ran out of view of the camera, and a single gunshot was heard. Catledge was then seen running back to his father, admitting that he had shot Clark. Detectives confirmed that Catledge’s account of the events matched the footage from the store.

Police Investigation

Investigators later determined that Catledge and Clark had struggled in the backyard of a home on Lafayette Avenue. Catledge claimed that during the struggle, Clark made a comment about his gun, prompting Catledge to retrieve it and fire a single shot in self-defense.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to gather more evidence and witness statements to piece together the full story of what happened that fateful morning in Grand Rapids.
