Kutter Crawford found himself in awe of Wilyer Abreu’s heroic play on Monday, as the Red Sox pitcher could only admire the rookie right fielder’s spectacular catch against the Cleveland Guardians.

During the first inning, Crawford was on the verge of a clean inning until he made a mistake with a high slider to Guardians’ star Jose Ramirez.

Ramirez hit a line drive to right field, with Abreu chasing the ball all the way to the warning track.

Just as Ramirez’s hit seemed destined to clear the fence, Abreu leaped up, caught the ball, and crashed against the fence, managing to hold onto the ball while falling forward.

This incredible catch by Abreu kept the game scoreless and left Crawford in disbelief. The pitcher’s arms were raised in triumph as he witnessed Abreu’s heroics.

Abreu’s performance was commendable, and Red Sox manager Alex Cora is looking to give him more playing time in the future.

So this is the way we’re going to find at-bats for him. Against right-handed pitchers, he will play every day. We’ll find a way to move people around, but he will be in the lineup against righties.”

Kutter Crawford might owe Wilyer Abreu a beverage or two.

The Red Sox starting pitcher could only tip his cap in appreciation for the rookie right fielder on Monday after Abreu reeled in a potential home run off of a highlight-reel catch against the Cleveland Guardians.

In the bottom of the first, Crawford nearly escaped with a clean inning before hanging a high slider to Guardians star Jose Ramirez.

Ramirez drove the ball on a line out to right, with Abreu tracking the scorched baseball all the way out to the warning track.

Just before Ramirez’s liner could potentially sneak over the short fence in front of the bullpens, Abreu snagged it out of the air — crashing against the fence and falling forward while holding onto the ball.

You can watch Abreu’s catch below:

Crawford could hardly believe it while watching from the mound, his arms raised in triumph after Abreu somehow managed to keep Monday’s game scoreless.

It was a strong start to the afternoon for Abreu, who manager Alex Cora is trying to carve out more playing time moving forward.

“This is about getting Abreu at-bats,” Cora said Monday morning about slotting Ceddanne Rafaela from center field to shortstop. “I’m telling you, Willie has to play. So this is the way we’re going to find at-bats for him. Against righties, he will play every day. So we’ll find a way. We’ll move people around, but he will play against righties.”
