Minneapolis Police Officer Shot in ‘Ambush’

A Minneapolis Police Officer is on the road to recovery after being shot in what authorities are describing as an “ambush” in the city. The incident took place on August 11, 2023, when the officer was on patrol in an unmarked car in the streets of Minneapolis.

Guilty Plea Entered

Fredrick Leon Davis, a 19-year-old, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted second-degree murder in connection to the shooting. The officer noticed a potentially stolen Chevy Equinox, believed to have been involved in a robbery, and followed it for about eight blocks before being shot at by the suspects.

Details of the Shooting

As the officer approached the suspect vehicle, he heard gunshots and saw muzzle flashes from two directions. The officer sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the right shoulder. The suspects fled the scene, but Davis was apprehended shortly after.

Weapon Discovery

Upon searching the vehicle, law enforcement found a Glock firearm equipped with a switch that made it fully automatic where Davis had been sitting. Additionally, a “ghost gun” was discovered in the back of the vehicle, allegedly fired three times during the incident.

Legal Proceedings

During interviews, one of the passengers in the vehicle implicated Davis as one of the shooters. Davis now faces a sentencing hearing scheduled for May 16, where he could potentially serve 131–153 months in prison as part of his plea agreement.

Conclusion

This tragic incident highlights the dangers that law enforcement officers face while on duty and the importance of holding those responsible for such crimes accountable. The Minneapolis Police Department continues to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of its officers and the community they serve..
