The Trial for Fayetteville Man Accused of Murder Delayed
Arkansas State Police have confirmed that the trial for Noah Cargill, a 20-year-old Fayetteville man accused of murder following a fatal crash in January, has been delayed. Cargill was arrested on January 16 on multiple charges including first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and reckless driving.
Details of the Incident
The fatal crash occurred on January 13 at the intersection of West Wales Drive and North Rupple Road in Fayetteville. Fayetteville police responded to the scene and discovered that Cargill had been involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle, resulting in the death of the driver, identified as David Pemberton, 58, of San Leandro, Calif.
According to police reports, Cargill was driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph, running red lights, and driving through an apartment complex parking lot before the collision occurred. He later claimed that he believed he was being chased by someone and was unaware that law enforcement was attempting to stop him.
Delayed Trial Date
Washington County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Denis Dean has confirmed that Cargill’s trial date has been postponed until a status hearing on November 18, at the defense’s request. Cargill remains in custody at the Washington County Jail on a $750,000 bond.
Public Safety Concerns
The detective on the case noted that Cargill’s reckless driving demonstrated a blatant disregard for human life, especially considering the incident occurred in a residential neighborhood and near one of the largest apartment complexes in Fayetteville. Additionally, a loaded gun was found in Cargill’s vehicle after the collision.
