Police identify victim and charge suspect in West Nipissing shooting incident

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Authorities have revealed the identity of the victim in a recent shooting incident that took place at a residence in West Nipissing. The incident occurred on March 13, 2024, at a home on Bradley Street, prompting a swift response from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The victim has been identified as Joseph GENEREUX, a 53-year-old resident of West Nipissing. Following a thorough investigation, Marc LARABIE, a 48-year-old individual from the same area, has been charged in connection with the incident.

Charges laid against the suspect

According to authorities, Marc LARABIE is facing the following charges:

  • Second degree murder
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm

The accused is currently in custody and is set to appear before the Superior Court of Justice in North Bay on April 12, 2024. Police have assured the public that this was an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to public safety.

Ongoing investigation

The investigation into the shooting incident is being conducted by the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit, with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services. The Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are also involved in the investigation.
