Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The tragic case of 3-month-old Dariana Gonzalez-Samano has shocked the community in Utah. The infant’s father, Israel Levi Gonzalez Gomez, is facing charges of first-degree felony murder, child abuse with injury, and child abuse homicide in connection with her death on February 22.

According to Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill, Dariana’s mother, Andrea Samano Galeana, is also facing charges of second-degree felony obstructing justice in relation to the case.

The heartbreaking story unfolded when Dariana was taken to a local hospital in serious condition on February 19. She suffered three cardiac arrests before being transferred to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, where a CT scan revealed she had retinal hemorrhages, a traumatic cataract, and brain bleeding.

Gomez allegedly told detectives that Dariana had been crying excessively since birth, and he felt desperate to calm her down. He admitted to lightly spanking her as recommended by his sister, and on the night of the incident, he and Galeana gave Dariana a bath and put her to bed. Despite their efforts to soothe her, the baby continued to cry.

Gomez claimed that Dariana went limp and pale after he bounced her to sleep, leading him and Galeana to rush her to the hospital. In a subsequent interview with detectives, Gomez said Dariana had fallen off the bed while he was changing her, and her heart stopped beating when he placed her back on the bed.

Galeana told detectives that she had asked Gomez to handle the baby more gently, and she suspected that Dariana had been hit. However, Gomez allegedly dismissed her concerns, stating that if he had hit her, she would be bleeding more.

The community is now mourning Dariana’s untimely death, with her family setting up a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral expenses. Dariana’s grandmother, identified only as Elizabeth, expressed gratitude for any support given during this difficult time.

Gomez and Galeana are currently in custody at the Salt Lake County Jail, and the investigation into Dariana’s death continues. It is unclear at this time whether they have legal representation. The tragic loss of this young life serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting and caring for vulnerable children in our society.
