Canada news: An Indian-origin couple and their teenage daughter tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire that swept through their home in Ontario province, Canada. The incident took place in the Big Sky Way and Van Kirk Drive area of Brampton, where a fire broke out on Thursday, March 7, engulfing their residence, as confirmed by Peel Police.

Following the extinguishing of the blaze, investigators discovered what appeared to be human remains within the burnt structure. The charred remains were later identified as those of the family members – 51-year-old Rajiv Warikoo, 47-year-old Shilpa Kotha, and their 16-year-old daughter, Mahek Warikoo.

Peel police Constable Taryn Young stated that the fire is being treated as suspicious by authorities, with the Ontario Fire Marshal ruling out accidental causes. The investigation has been escalated to the homicide bureau in light of these findings.

Neighbour’s Account

A neighbour of the deceased family, Kenneth Yousaf, revealed that the Warikoo-Kotha family had been residents of the street for approximately 15 years, with no apparent issues reported. Yousaf recounted being alerted to the fire by a loud noise, following which the house was engulfed in flames, leaving everything in ruins within hours.

Authorities have called for any witnesses or individuals with relevant information, including video footage, to assist in the ongoing investigation. The focus remains on determining the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
