Tragic House Fire Claims Lives of Parents in Damansara Utama

On a quiet street in the heart of Damansara Utama, Selangor, tragedy struck early this morning as a two-storey house went up in flames. The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received a distress call at 5.13 am, reporting a fire at a residence on Jalan SS21/18.

Rescue Efforts

Upon arrival, firefighters found a raging inferno that had already claimed the lives of Kang Tsi Yam, 61, and his wife, Leong Chen Mun, 55. The couple perished in the blaze, leaving behind their 14-year-old daughter as the sole survivor. The young girl was rescued by JBPM and is currently receiving medical attention for minor injuries.

Extent of Damage

The fire, which originated in the main bedroom on the upper floor and spread to the kitchen on the ground floor, destroyed an estimated 70% of the house. Four fire engines and 10 firefighters from the Damansara and Petaling Jaya Fire and Rescue Stations worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames and contain the situation.

Investigation Underway

Following the tragic incident, fire investigation officers arrived at the scene at 6.30 am to determine the cause of the fire. K9 tracking dogs have been deployed to aid in the investigation process. The bodies of the victims have been transported to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examinations.
