Clearwater Fire Rescue and Clearwater Police rushed to the scene of a water rescue call off the Courtney Campbell Causeway just before 5 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024. The causeway, a popular bridge connecting Clearwater and Tampa, was the site of a tragic incident involving a 32-year-old man from Haines City.

Swimming Turned Tragic

The man was enjoying a day out with his family, swimming in the waters near the causeway when he suddenly found himself in distress. As the situation quickly escalated, emergency responders were called to the scene to assist in the rescue operation.

Race Against Time

Clearwater Fire & Rescue wasted no time in deploying a rapid diver to search for the victim, who was reportedly located about 30 yards from the shore. Despite the valiant efforts of the rescue team, the man was found unresponsive and in need of immediate medical attention.

Efforts to Save a Life

Paramedics on the scene immediately began administering CPR in a bid to resuscitate the victim. The man was swiftly transported to Mease Countryside hospital, where medical staff continued their efforts to save his life.

Tragic Outcome

Despite the best efforts of all involved, the 32-year-old man tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise when enjoying recreational activities in the water.
