COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — A tense situation unfolded in Commerce City, Colorado on Thursday evening as police officers were forced to take action to protect a family from a man who allegedly threatened violence.

Police Respond to Distress Call

The Commerce City Police Department received a 911 call from a home in the 7000 block of Garden Lane just after 8 p.m. The caller claimed to be armed with a knife and stated his intention to harm his own family. This alarming threat prompted a swift response from law enforcement.

Attempted De-escalation

Upon arrival, officers attempted to calm the situation and persuade the man to relinquish his weapon peacefully. However, their efforts were met with resistance as the individual refused to cooperate with their instructions to drop the knife. Faced with a potential threat to the safety of the family members present, the officers made the difficult decision to use force.

Man Hospitalized

The 22-year-old suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained injuries as a result of the police intervention and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries remains unknown at this time.

Investigation Underway

The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has taken over the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the police shooting. In accordance with department protocol, the officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
