The Career IDF Officer who Defended Himself in a Terrorist Stabbing Attack

In a tragic turn of events, 51-year-old Uri Moyal, a career IDF officer, was fatally stabbed in a terrorist attack at an Aroma coffee shop at the Beit Kama Junction in southern Israel. Moyal, who served as Chief Warrant Officer, was attacked by a Gaza-born Israeli-Arab man, later identified as 22-year-old Fadi Abu Altayef.

The Brave Fight for Survival

Despite sustaining severe injuries to his back, throat, and stomach, Moyal managed to summon his strength and courageously defended himself. In a remarkable display of bravery, he drew his pistol and shot and killed the terrorist, Fadi Abu Altayef.

A Hero’s Sacrifice

Uri Moyal, a resident of Dimona and technology officer at an IDF training base, was rushed to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba in critical condition. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Moyal leaves behind his wife and three children, a heartbreaking loss for his family and the nation.

The Terrorist’s Background

Fadi Abu Altayef, the assailant responsible for the heinous attack, was a resident of Rahat, a southern Israeli Bedouin town. Born in Gaza, Altayef received Israeli residency in 2019 after marrying an Arab-Israeli woman. His cousin, Ahmed Abu Latif, had previously been killed while serving in the IDF in the southern Gaza Strip.

A String of Attacks

This incident comes on the heels of another terrorist stabbing attack just south of Jerusalem, where two individuals were wounded. The victims, a security guard and a soldier, were both hospitalized in moderate condition, adding to the rising tensions and violence in the region.

As Israel grapples with these senseless acts of terror, the loss of Uri Moyal serves as a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by brave individuals in the line of duty. May his memory be a blessing, and may peace and security prevail in the face of adversity.
