A woman has been indicted in connection to the fatal house fire in New Orleans East that tragically left three children dead in 2023. This heartbreaking incident has shocked the local community and brought attention to the importance of fire safety and prevention.
According to reports from WGNO, a woman called 911 around midnight on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, reporting that her children’s father, who was also her estranged husband, had intentions of burning down their home. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy unresponsive just a few feet from the door. The suspect, identified as Joseph Washington, the children’s father, was apprehended by the New Orleans Police Department on Interstate 610 East after attempting to flee the scene by jumping off an overpass.
