A chaotic scene unfolded in East Mayur Vihar’s bustling market on Wednesday night when a rash driver crashed their car into the crowded area, resulting in the tragic death of a 22-year-old female and injuries to six others. The incident, which occurred around 9:30 pm, shocked onlookers and left the community reeling.
Details of the Incident
The CCTV footage of the harrowing event quickly circulated online, capturing the moment a silver Hyundai Sedan careened into a vegetable vendor’s cart within the busy market. The video showed numerous passersby and shopkeepers present as the car plowed through the area, causing chaos and panic. In a desperate attempt to stop the driver, a brave individual rushed towards the vehicle and tried to break the window glasses before the car sped away in reverse.

DCP (East) Mayur Vihar confirmed that the seven individuals involved, including the deceased and the injured, have been identified. Tragically, five of the victims are women, with the deceased identified as 22-year-old Sita Devi from Ghaziabad.
Victims Admitted to Hospital
The injured individuals were promptly taken to the nearest Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for medical treatment. Reports from the police indicated that the reckless driver continued to accelerate even after colliding with people in the market.
In a display of community justice, CCTV footage emerged showing the accused being confronted and physically reprimanded by locals before being handed over to the authorities.
The police are currently investigating the incident, including verifying the driver’s credentials and determining if they possessed a valid driver’s license.

This unfortunate incident is not the first of its kind in Delhi, as previous occurrences of speeding vehicles causing harm have been reported.
