Tragic Accident Claims Life of Augusta Teen
A devastating single-car accident in Augusta has left the community in mourning after a 17-year-old teen lost his life. The incident occurred at the intersection of Twiggs Street and Laney Walker Boulevard, where the vehicle, carrying two juveniles, veered off the road and collided with a tree.
Details of the Incident
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) responded to the scene early Thursday morning following reports of a traffic accident with injuries. The vehicle, travelling west on the 1200 block of Twiggs Street, was reportedly speeding before the driver lost control, leading to the fatal crash.
Tragically, Jermaine Omar Odom Jr., from the 500 block of Richmond Hill Road, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Mark Bowen. The identity of the other juvenile passenger, who was rushed to Augusta University Medical Center for treatment, has not been disclosed.
Investigations and Road Reopening
In response to the incident, the Richmond County STAR Team and the Coroner’s Office were deployed to investigate the crash. The Coroner’s Office is currently leading the investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic outcome.
Following the completion of initial investigations and necessary procedures, Twiggs Street between Laney Walker Boulevard and Wrightsboro Road has been reopened to traffic. The community is urged to exercise caution and adhere to road safety regulations in the area.
