The Tragic Shooting Incident in North Lakeland

Residents of North Lakeland were left in shock earlier this week when a fatal shooting took the life of a 3-year-old boy at the Cambridge Cove apartment complex. The Lakeland Police Department is now seeking the public’s help in locating two men connected to this heartbreaking incident.

Identifying the Suspects

At a press conference held on Thursday, Lakeland Police Chief Sammy Taylor revealed that the police have identified three individuals involved in the shooting. One suspect, Kemarious Wilson, was found deceased at the scene. However, two other men, 22-year-old Demarius Wilson and 30-year-old Kavarius Green, are currently at large.

Chief Taylor emphasized the importance of locating these individuals, stating, “We very much want to get both of these individuals off the street, and we need the public’s help in identifying them.”

Details of the Incident

Surveillance footage obtained by the LPD shows a white Dodge Challenger blocking a Toyota RAV4 driven by the victim’s mother, Yeimarie Baez, on Cambridge Cove Circle. Two men, identified as Kemarious Wilson and Kevarius Green, exited the Challenger and approached the vehicle.

According to Chief Taylor, Wilson brandished a 9mm handgun, while Green carried a .223-caliber rifle. Shots were exchanged between Green and the male passenger in the RAV4, resulting in tragic consequences.

The Aftermath

As the gunfire erupted, Baez managed to grab her 3-month-old daughter and escape from the vehicle. Green fired multiple rounds through the windshield of the RAV4, fatally striking both Jaquez Norton and Kemarious Wilson.

Police have since obtained arrest warrants for both Demarius Wilson and Kavarius Green, charging them with serious felonies related to the incident. Despite ongoing investigations, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

The LPD is urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of Green or Wilson to come forward. Detective Cory Lawson can be reached at 863-834-8975 or via email at cory.lawson@lakelandgov.net.
