Details have emerged regarding the fatal shooting that took place in Springdale, involving a 25-year veteran of the police force. The officer involved has been identified as Cpl. Danny Wright, who has served on the force for more than two decades.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on Norfolk Avenue, where police were dispatched in response to reports of a man damaging vehicles and threatening residents in the neighbourhood. Upon arriving at the scene, Cpl. Wright encountered 30-year-old Dimitri Calvert, who was armed with a knife.

Use of Deadly Force

Despite repeated commands to drop the knife, Calvert refused to comply, leading to Cpl. Wright using deadly force to subdue the suspect. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in Calvert being shot and subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigation Underway

Following the incident, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation to determine whether the use of deadly force was justified. As part of the investigation, Calvert’s body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Officer Placed on Administrative Leave
