In a daring attempt to smuggle millions of dollars’ worth of methamphetamine, a 27-year-old man was apprehended at the Otay Mesa Cargo Facility on Tuesday evening. The suspect, driving a commercial tractor-trailer, was flagged for inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers.

Discovery of Methamphetamine

During a secondary inspection, a CBP K-9 unit detected a suspicious box containing a crystal-like substance. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the substance was methamphetamine hidden among shipments of peppers and tomatillos. A total of 3,594 packages of methamphetamine, weighing over 3,671 pounds, were discovered inside the box.
