Deadly Shooting in Waxhaw, North Carolina

In a tragic incident in Waxhaw, North Carolina, a family dispute turned deadly on Tuesday evening. The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported that 29-year-old Justin Starnes was killed in a shooting at a home along Forest Green Drive near Waxhaw Indian Trails Road South. The alleged perpetrator, 62-year-old Jeffery Lemmonds, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Details of the Incident

Deputies responded to a call regarding a family dispute that had escalated into violence. Upon arrival, they found Starnes with a fatal gunshot wound. Tragically, EMS pronounced him deceased at the scene. Additionally, Lemmonds’ wife was discovered inside the house with a severe head injury. She was promptly taken to a local hospital for urgent medical treatment and is expected to survive.

Arrest and Investigation

Following a swift investigation, law enforcement officers identified Lemmonds as the suspect. He had fled to a relative’s home in Monroe but was apprehended shortly afterward. Sheriff Eddie Cathey expressed his condolences to the victims and their family members, emphasizing the senseless nature of the violence that transpired.
