Three Norwalk Police Officers Arrested in Connection to Recent Incidents

The Norwalk Police Department is facing scrutiny following the arrests of three of its officers in connection to separate incidents. The most recent arrest occurred over the weekend when Officer David Vetare, 54, was charged in connection to a road rage incident near Trumbull, Connecticut.

Details of the Road Rage Incident

According to an incident report provided by Connecticut State Police, a woman reported that her vehicle was struck with an object during a road rage incident on Route 15 north between exits 44 and 49. The woman stated that the driver of a tan GMC Yukon with a Connecticut license plate threw an object at her car and attempted to run her off the road.

Troopers later identified the driver as David Vetare, a Norwalk police officer, who admitted to his involvement in the incident. Vetare was charged with reckless driving, second-degree reckless endangerment, operating a motor vehicle with the intention to harass or intimidate, and second-degree breach of peace.

Previous Arrests of Norwalk Police Officers

Vetare is the third Norwalk police officer to be arrested in recent weeks. On February 15, Sergeant Shannon James Sherry was charged in connection to a fatal collision on Interstate 84. The incident resulted in the death of Elijah Joseph Vallier, 24, of New Britain.

In a separate incident, Officer Hector Delgado, 51, was arrested by the Bridgeport Police Department on charges of third-degree stalking and second-degree harassment. Delgado’s arrest stemmed from a family violence incident, and an internal affairs investigation was initiated.

Statement from Norwalk Police Chief James Walsh

In a statement released Tuesday night, Norwalk Police Chief James Walsh acknowledged the impact of the recent arrests on the community and the department. He reassured Norwalk residents that maintaining their safety and trust remained the department’s top priority.

Walsh emphasized the department’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and upholding the highest standards of integrity. He expressed support for the dedicated officers of the department and pledged to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the recent arrests.

As the Norwalk Police Department grapples with the fallout from these incidents, Walsh urged the community to remember that the actions of a few individuals do not define the department as a whole. He thanked the officers for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to serving and protecting the community.
