Stockton Man Charged in Death of Gas Station Employee in San Leandro

A tragic incident unfolded last month at a Speedway gas station in San Leandro, where a 78-year-old employee, Wadih Badran of Livermore, lost his life in a senseless act of violence. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Dennis Lee from Stockton, was charged on Monday with murder and weapons violations in connection with the incident.

Suspect Found Loitering Behind Gas Station

According to witnesses, the confrontation occurred on February 22 when Badran discovered Lee loitering behind the Speedway gas station at 14880 E. 14th St. in San Leandro. Reports indicate that Lee approached Badran from behind and forcefully shoved him into a pole, resulting in fatal head and neck trauma for the elderly employee.

Arrest and Investigation

Following the incident, Lee fled the scene, but through a collaborative effort involving surveillance video, license-plate-reading cameras, and forensic evidence, detectives were able to identify and track down the suspect. On March 8, Lee was apprehended in Stockton with the assistance of deputies from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.

Search warrants executed at Lee’s residence in Stockton and his parents’ home in Castro Valley led to the discovery of clothing allegedly worn during the homicide and two illegally possessed firearms. The Alameda County District Attorney’s office wasted no time in charging Lee with murder and weapons violations.

Upcoming Arraignment

Jail records indicate that Lee is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday at the Alameda County Superior Court located at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin. The community is urged to come forward with any additional information regarding the incident by contacting San Leandro police.
