Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Three years after a 14-year-old boy was tragically gunned down in the West End neighborhood of St. Louis, authorities have finally made an arrest and filed charges in the case. The incident took place in the 1100 block of Hodiamont Avenue on March 8, 2021, and has left the community in shock.

Suspects Identified in Surveillance Video

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, surveillance footage captured two individuals, Omarion Mays and James J. Blake, attacking the teen by forcibly removing him from his bicycle. Mays, now 19 years old, is seen brandishing a weapon and shooting the victim in the head while he is on the ground. Following the heinous act, Mays and Blake proceeded to steal marijuana from the deceased teenager before fleeing the scene.

Witnesses Come Forward

Thanks to the cooperation of witnesses, Mays was identified as one of the suspects in the case. During questioning by law enforcement, Mays confessed to participating in the robbery but denied pulling the trigger, placing the blame squarely on Blake.

Charges Filed

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office wasted no time in charging Mays with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action. Mays, who is already in custody for a separate offense, has been denied bond in connection with this case. Meanwhile, James J. Blake remains at large, with an arrest warrant issued for first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action.

Justice for the Victim

As the legal process unfolds, the community awaits closure and justice for the young victim whose life was cut short in such a senseless act of violence. The arrest and charges bring hope for resolution and healing in a case that has lingered for far too long.
