Gunmen Open Fire in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka

Tragedy struck in the quiet town of Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka, on Monday night when two unidentified gunmen opened fire near a shop on Wela Road. The incident, which occurred around 8:35 pm, left two people dead and three others injured in its wake.

Details of the Incident

According to reports from the Police Media Division, the assailants arrived at the scene on a motorcycle armed with a T-56 firearm. After carrying out the shooting, they quickly fled the scene, leaving chaos and devastation behind.

Investigations have revealed that the shooting was targeted at a worker named ‘Podi’ at the shop, with the owner having no prior criminal charges against them. Police suspect that the owner was mistakenly shot by the assailants, who were actually aiming for the employee.

Victims and Injuries

The two deceased individuals have been identified as Halamba Udesh Maduranga, also known as ‘Podi Mendis’, and 21-year-old Dadallage Sithum Anjana, known as ‘Sudu’, the son of the shop owner. Three others, namely Chatura Madushanka, Pattini Wasam Akila, and Sangamage Champika Thushara, are currently receiving treatment at Balapitiya Hospital for their injuries.

Suspected Connection to Another Shooting

Police suspect that the shooter involved in the Ambalangoda incident may be the same individual responsible for a shooting in the Pitigala area that occurred just 30 minutes prior. They believe that both shootings were carried out by a group of organized criminals on paid contracts.

The Ambalangoda Police are actively conducting further investigations into the matter to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of the community.
