A man from Rancho Cucamonga found himself in hot water after shooting himself in the hand, leading to his arrest for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Gunshots Heard in Rancho Cucamonga Apartment

The incident unfolded just after 9:50 p.m. on Monday when the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department received a call about gunshots heard in an apartment in Rancho Cucamonga. The reporting party mentioned hearing gunshots and an unknown man yelling.

Upon arriving at the scene, located in the 8200 block of Vineyard Avenue, deputies encountered 28-year-old Devauntae Lee Scroggins. Scroggins had a gunshot wound to his left hand.

Previous Legal Troubles for Scroggins

Further investigation revealed that Scroggins was on felony probation for a previous case where he set fire to a vehicle and assaulted a deputy. He also had a recent run-in with the law for assaulting a police officer in January.

Due to his status as a felon, Scroggins was booked into the West Valley Detention Center after receiving medical treatment. His bail was set at $30,000.

Charges and Court Appearance

Scroggins faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as probation violation. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
