Details of the Fatal Shooting in Idaho Falls
Over the weekend, tragedy struck in Idaho Falls when a fatal shooting occurred on 4th Street. The victim of this senseless act has been identified as Eric Charles Leask, a 51-year-old resident of Idaho Falls. He was pronounced deceased at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center on Saturday, according to Bonneville County Coroner Rick Taylor.
Sequence of Events
The incident began with a 911 call reporting a burglary at a home on the 100 block of 4th Street around 9 p.m. on Saturday. The caller stated that a person had entered the home and shot two individuals, including Leask. Both victims were rushed to EIRMC, where Leask tragically succumbed to his injuries. The other victim’s condition remains unknown at this time.
Suspect Apprehended
The suspect in the shooting was identified as Lance Broncho, a 23-year-old individual. He was found in an apartment in the Teton Mesa Apartments on the 800 block of Lomax Street shortly after 11 p.m. Broncho barricaded himself inside the apartment and refused to cooperate with law enforcement’s commands.
SWAT Team Intervention
In response to Broncho’s non-compliance, the Idaho Falls Police Department SWAT Team was called in. They introduced CS gas into the residence, prompting Broncho to surrender and be taken into custody around 1 a.m. Another individual, later identified as Blanca Lopez, was also apprehended after attempting to hide from police.
Legal Ramifications
Broncho is currently being held at Bonneville County Jail on federal warrants. Local charges related to homicide are expected to be filed against him once the investigation is concluded. This is not the first time Broncho has been involved in criminal activities, as he was previously indicted for federal felony assault in 2020.
