The tragic incident unfolded on July 9, 2019, when Kansas City police responded to a call at E. 57th Street and McGee Street around 12:15 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive man in Brookside Park, later identified as Corey Robinson. Sadly, Robinson had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage captured Robinson and at least two others inside a vehicle belonging to Campbell’s girlfriend near the park at the time of the shooting. The vehicle was observed leaving the area hastily following the incident, raising suspicions.

During the investigation, detectives recovered vital pieces of evidence at the crime scene, including two live shotgun rounds. Campbell’s criminal history also came to light, with prior involvement in a separate homicide case on December 3, 2019, where witnesses identified him as the perpetrator.
