The Tragic Murder Case Unfolding in Flint, England
In a shocking turn of events, a 34-year-old man from Flint, England, is facing felony charges for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, whose body was discovered in the Flint River days after she went missing.
Discovery of the Body
Christopher Astin Motry, a resident of Flint, is accused of first-degree premeditated murder, tampering with evidence, concealing the death of an individual, and domestic violence, according to Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.
The tragic incident came to light when a fisherman reported a suspicious garbage bag with toes protruding from it on the banks of the Flint River near Whaley Park on March 4.
Identification of the Victim
The body was later confirmed to be that of Christina Barber, a 48-year-old woman from Flint.
Timeline of Events
Prior to the discovery of the body, authorities were called to conduct a welfare check on Barber, who had been involved in a heated argument with her boyfriend and had not reported to work for a week, Leyton revealed.
A day before the body was found, police were summoned to the Flint Motel off North Dort Highway, where they found Room 18 stained with blood and kitty litter.
Surveillance Footage
Surveillance video from the motel captured Motry and Barber arriving in a 2001 Ford F150 and entering Room 18 on February 28.
The footage shows Motry carrying what appears to be a body in a plastic bag out of the room and loading it into his truck the following day, after which Barber is never seen again.
Motive and Relationship
Leyton disclosed that Barber and Motry worked together at a Burger King, and Barber, a mother of seven, was trying to end her relationship with Motry, who was married.
While Motry’s wife is not considered a suspect and has cooperated with the investigation, Motry remains in custody without bond at the Genesee County Jail.
Legal Proceedings
Motry was formally charged on March 8 and is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on March 21, as authorities continue to piece together the events leading to Barber’s tragic demise.
