Man Killed in Stolen Car Incident in Fairfax County

In a tragic incident in Fairfax County, Virginia, a man has tragically lost his life after being struck by a stolen car. The Fairfax County Police Department reported that the incident took place in the Hybla Valley area.

Search for Stolen Car

On Sunday at around 12:20 a.m., authorities were actively searching for a black 2015 Hyundai Sonata that had been reported stolen from the 7900 block of Sausalito Place on March 9. During the search, an officer spotted the stolen vehicle on Buckman Road near Russell Road.

Driver Flees the Scene

Upon realizing that the police had located the stolen car, the driver attempted to evade capture and fled the scene. The officers made the decision not to pursue the vehicle at that time.

Tragic Collision

Approximately 15 minutes later, another officer observed the stolen car speeding along Janna Lee Avenue. The driver of the stolen vehicle then proceeded to side-swipe an occupied car on Tamarind Street. Despite the police following the driver, the stolen car eventually crashed into a dumpster and was found abandoned.

Victim Identified

Following the crash, authorities discovered a man who had been struck in the grass nearby. The victim was later identified as 63-year-old James Johnson from Hybla Valley. Tragically, Mr. Johnson succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital.

Search for Driver

Despite their efforts, the police were unable to locate the driver of the stolen car. Through their investigation, officers determined that the driver had struck Mr. Johnson on Janna Lee Avenue before fleeing the scene and crashing into a dumpster.
