Shocking Incident in Ashtabula, Ohio

Two women in Ashtabula, Ohio, have been arrested for a bizarre and shocking incident involving the body of an 80-year-old man. Karen Casbohm, 63, and Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, were charged with gross abuse of a corpse and theft from a person in a protected class.

Strange Turn of Events

The incident unfolded when police were called to the Ashtabula County Medical Center emergency room after two women dropped off the body of an unidentified man. It was later revealed that the deceased was 80-year-old Douglas Layman, a resident of Ashtabula.

Unusual Sequence of Events

According to Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell, Casbohm and Feralo claimed to have found Layman dead at the home they all shared. Allegedly, they placed Layman’s body in the front seat of his car and drove to a bank to withdraw money from his account. The body was positioned in such a way that it would be visible to bank staff during the transaction.

Unexpected Motives

Lt. Mike Palinkas revealed that one of the women had been in a live-in relationship with Layman for several years, while the other had been staying at the residence for a few months. The women stated that it was common for them to access Layman’s account for expenses, but the reason for their actions on that particular day remains unclear.

Legal Proceedings

Casbohm has been arraigned and is being held on a $5,000 bond, while Feralo is scheduled for arraignment next week. It is unknown if they have legal representation at this time. The case is still under investigation, and additional charges may be filed. The cause of Layman’s death will be determined after an autopsy, which could take up to eight months.
