Tragic Incident Unfolds in Ottawa Suburb
In the peaceful suburb of Barrhaven in Ottawa, a horrifying tragedy recently unfolded that left the community reeling in shock and disbelief. Dhanushka Wickramasinghe, a hardworking man who had finally been reunited with his family after years of separation, found himself in the midst of a nightmare that no one could have imagined.
Family Reunion Turns into Nightmare
After spending several lonely years in Canada, Wickramasinghe’s joy knew no bounds when his wife, Darshani Ekanyake, and their three children joined him last summer. The happy chaos of a full household filled their home with love and laughter. However, their happiness was shattered when tragedy struck on a fateful day.
Unthinkable Violence Unfolds
On that fateful day, as Wickramasinghe grappled with an assailant at his front door, he was brutally attacked with a knife-like object, leaving him gravely injured. The attacker’s violence knew no bounds as he also took the lives of Wickramasinghe’s entire family and a family friend, leaving a trail of devastation in his wake.
Community in Shock and Grief
The entire neighbourhood was left in shock and grief as news of the horrific incident spread. The close-knit Sri Lankan community in Ottawa rallied behind Wickramasinghe, offering support and comfort during his time of unimaginable loss. The senseless violence that had torn apart a once-happy family left everyone questioning how such a tragedy could have occurred.
Suspect’s Troubled Past Comes to Light
As details emerged about the suspect, Febrio De-Zoysa, a 19-year-old international student who had been living with the family, a troubled past began to surface. De-Zoysa, who had dropped out of school and was struggling with suicidal thoughts, had seemingly cut off all contact with his own family, leaving them in shock and disbelief at the heinous acts he had committed.
Justice System Takes Action
De-Zoysa now faces multiple charges, including six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. The judicial system will ensure that he is held accountable for the senseless loss of life that has shattered a once-happy family and left a community in mourning.
Support and Healing for the Surviving Victim
As Wickramasinghe recovers from his physical injuries and emotional trauma, the outpouring of support from his community and loved ones will help him on the long road to healing. His brother and father, who are travelling from Sri Lanka to be by his side, will provide the much-needed comfort and strength during this difficult time.
