The Tragic Incident in South Texas

On Friday, March 8, tragedy struck in South Texas when a military helicopter crashed near Rio Grande City, claiming the lives of two soldiers from the New York Army National Guard. The soldiers, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Casey Frankoski and Chief Warrant Officer 2 John Grassia, were on a mission to support the federal Southwest border when the UH-72 Lakota helicopter went down at approximately 2:50 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.

The Fallen Soldiers

Frankoski, 28, hailing from Rensselaer, N.Y., and Grassia, 30, from Schenectady, N.Y., were both assigned to Detachment 2, Company A, 1st of the 224th Aviation Regiment, New York Army National Guard. They were conducting aviation operations when the tragic accident occurred, leaving a deep void in their respective communities.
