Idaho Falls Burglary Turns Deadly

Just before 9:00 p.m. on a Saturday night, the Idaho Falls 911 Emergency Communications Center received a distressing call about a burglary in progress at a residence located in the 100 block of 4th Street. The caller reported that an individual had entered the residence, and two people had been shot in the process.

Swift Police Response

Upon receiving the call, Idaho Falls Police Officers promptly arrived at the scene and discovered two adult male victims who had suffered gunshot wounds. Without hesitation, the officers sprang into action, providing immediate life-saving first aid to the injured individuals. Idaho Falls Fire EMS arrived shortly after and took over the medical care, transporting both victims to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries.

Identification and Arrest of Suspect

Through a thorough investigation, Idaho Falls Police Officers were able to swiftly identify and locate the suspect in an apartment situated in the Teton Mesa Apartments in the 800 block of Lomax Street just after 11:00 p.m. The suspect, upon being discovered, barricaded himself inside the apartment, refusing to comply with the officers’ commands.

SWAT Team Response

With the situation escalating, the Idaho Falls Police SWAT Team was called in to handle the standoff. Neighboring residents were evacuated for their safety as a precaution. The SWAT Team decided to introduce CS gas into the residence, prompting the suspect to surrender and be taken into custody at around 1:00 a.m.

Additional Arrest Made

During the course of the incident, a second individual, later identified as Blanca Lopez, was seen exiting the apartment before attempting to hide in another unit to evade the police. Lopez was swiftly located and apprehended on pre-existing Bonneville County Warrants in the early hours of the morning.

Suspect and Charges

The primary suspect, Lance Broncho, a 23-year-old male, is currently in custody on federal warrants. He is expected to face charges related to homicide as the investigation progresses. Broncho sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during the initial altercation before his encounter with the Idaho Falls Police Department.

Public Safety

Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat stemming from this incident. As the investigation continues, more information is expected to be released in the following days to shed light on the tragic events that unfolded in Idaho Falls.
