Tragic Shooting Incident at Idaho Falls Apartment Complex
Over the weekend, a heartbreaking incident unfolded at an apartment complex in Idaho Falls, resulting in one man losing his life and another sustaining injuries. The Idaho Falls Police Department received a distressing 911 call just before 9 p.m. on Saturday, reporting a burglary in progress at a residence in the 100 block of 4th Street.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two men who had been shot. Immediate life-saving aid was administered by the police, followed by emergency medical services from Idaho Falls Fire. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Suspect Identified and Apprehended
The suspect, later identified as Lance Broncho, 23, was located in an apartment at the Teton Mesa Apartments on Lomax Street. Despite police instructions to surrender, Broncho barricaded himself inside the apartment, prompting the deployment of the Idaho Falls Police SWAT Team. Neighbours were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Following the use of tear gas by the SWAT Team, Broncho surrendered and was taken into custody around 1 a.m. It was revealed that Broncho had sustained a gunshot wound during the initial incident. His injury, fortunately, was not life-threatening.
Second Suspect Arrested
Another individual, identified as Blanca Lopez, was also apprehended after attempting to hide from law enforcement. Lopez was found in a different apartment and taken into custody on existing Bonneville County Warrants.
Various agencies, including the Idaho State Police, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, and Chaplains of Idaho, assisted in responding to the incident. Jessica Clements, spokesperson for the Idaho Falls Police Department, expressed gratitude for their support and swift action.
Legal Proceedings Await
