Shocking Incident Unfolds in Ashtabula, Ohio
In a bizarre turn of events, two Ohio women have been charged with gross abuse of a corpse and theft from a person in a protected class after driving the body of an 80-year-old man to a bank in Ashtabula. Karen Casbohm, 63, and Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, are facing serious legal consequences for their actions.
Discovery at Ashtabula County Medical Center
Police were alerted on Monday evening when the women dropped off the deceased man’s body at the Ashtabula County Medical Center emergency room without providing any identification. It was only after a few hours that the women contacted the hospital with information on the deceased, identified as 80-year-old Douglas Layman of Ashtabula.
Gruesome Details Emerge
Upon further investigation, officers discovered that Casbohm and Feralo had found Layman dead at the residence where they all lived. Allegedly, with the help of a third individual, they placed Layman’s body in the front seat of his car and drove to a bank to withdraw money from his account. The body was positioned in such a way that it would be visible to bank staff during the transaction.
Motive Remains Unclear
According to reports, one of the women had been in a live-in relationship with Layman for several years, while the other had been staying at the residence for a few months. Although the women claimed it was normal for them to access Layman’s funds, authorities are still puzzled by their actions on that particular day.
Legal Ramifications
Casbohm has already been arraigned and is being held on a $5,000 bond, while Feralo is scheduled for arraignment in the coming week.
