In a joint operation between the Assam Police and the forest department, three suspected poachers were apprehended in Chirang district, Assam. The arrests were made in the Bijni area near the Panbari forest range, where the individuals were caught with a large quantity of animal body parts and firearms.

Illegal Poaching Activity

According to officials from the Panbari forest range, the arrested individuals had killed deer and other wild animals with the intention of selling them in an illegal market. The suspects, identified as Dhansing Goyari (25), Ashok Brahma (27), and Bergo Musahari (40), all residents of Chirang district, were found in possession of two firearms, four machetes, and other hunting materials.

Law Enforcement Response

Chirang district Superintendent of Police (SP) Pranjit Bora stated that they received a tip-off from the forest department regarding the suspected poachers, leading to the operation near the Panbari forest range area. Two cases have been registered against the accused, one under the Wildlife Protection Act and another under the Arms Act, 1959.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The arrested individuals will be presented before the court, and an investigation has been launched to uncover any additional individuals involved in the poaching activities. SP Bora emphasized the seriousness of the incident and the ongoing efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice.
