Shooting on 60 Freeway in Industry Leaves One Man Wounded

Details have emerged about a recent shooting incident on the 60 Freeway in Industry, California, described by authorities as a road rage incident that left one man injured. The incident occurred on the westbound side of the freeway, just west of Azusa Avenue, early Thursday morning.

Collision Leads to Confrontation

The situation unfolded when a black Ford F-250 pickup truck and a gray Honda Accord were involved in a collision. Following the crash, the driver of the truck, later identified as 50-year-old Michael F. Vickers, fled the scene. The other driver attempted to stop him by positioning his Accord in front of the truck and coming to a stop in the slow lane, between Hacienda Boulevard and Seventh Avenue.

Shooting Incident

As the Accord’s driver confronted Vickers, the situation escalated when Vickers fired a weapon, injuring the other driver. Vickers then fled the scene, leaving the victim to seek a safe place to call 911. Responding Highway Patrol officers and Los Angeles County firefighters found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound, leading to his transportation to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation and Arrest

The investigation into the incident resulted in the closure of the westbound side of the freeway for over 30 minutes as authorities collected evidence. The wounded man was able to provide the license plate of the pickup truck, leading to the identification of Vickers as the suspect. Vickers, a resident of Moreno Valley, was located at his residence and taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder after a search warrant was served at his home.
